1965 Ford Mustang Race Car

Various Engines / Various Transmissions

01.jpg

This was a very long lived car for me......15 years of going down the track, changing engines, adding electronics and chasing that ever elusive 'consistency' that needs to be there for bracket racing.  I really enjoyed this, and hope to return to it someday, but for now, look at the pictures and relive the memories with me.  The car was various colors during its' life, starting out as a dark maroon red when Fast Times sponsored it, then to a brilliant red, then to white with blue Shelby stripes, then ultimately to my favorite white with red Shelby stripes.

I had 3 different engines in the car.  Starting with the Fast Times provided 454 chevy, but my heart was always with Ford, so that went away and in went a 351 Cleveland with a 'flat' crank.  The thing sounded like a scalded banshee and would run mid 10's with high-port heads, but it would not stay together so I went with a very mild 351 Cleveland with some Keith Craft ported heads and it ran high 9's and low 10's and stayed together very well.

I was able to win some events and always enjoyed it, but drag racing is a lot of work for just a few seconds of go-fast.

Was it Napoleon that said "I shall return"?
